I would choose Smf, beta 2 is great! I like it more than Phpbb as its easier to customize, and has better security reputation  I dont like phpbb3, maybe I spected to much from those guys, but you could compare 'em on localhost btw.. isnt YaBB written in Perl? see ya around (not just bypass! damn!) =) |

I think that SMF is the best option free, phpBB is good for has many bugs.
